The
Defense Production Act gives the federal government broad authority to direct private companies to assist in national defense, including terrorism and natural disaster responses. It was signed into law by Harry Truman. Why hasn’t Trump invoked this authority? He said he would invoke it “in case we need it”, but it seems like this act would allow him to federalize the medical supply chain which would help hospitals and medical workers. Is there a political reason he’s holding back?
