Line Item Vetos

Another variant on the Vana White veto: the Frankenstein veto, which allows governors to veto individual words.

In Wisconsin, Governor Jim Doyle used this to narrow 752 words down to 20. And in the process took $472 million out of the transportation budget. The New York Times does a great job of showing how to do it: New York Times Illustration of the Frankenstein Veto in Action.
